"No Pain, No Jane"
88" X 88" queen size quilt
This is my "Dear Jane" quilt, the design made popular over 10 years ago by Brenda Papadakis who wrote a book by the same title.
Brenda did research on an antique quilt made by Jane Stickle in the civil war year of 1863. She reproduced the intricate patterns for the 4 1/2 inch finished blocks in her book. Many have come to love this design and challenge themselves to make the 169 blocks and 52 triangles. One who finishes the entire quilt is considered a "Quilt Goddess" by other Dear Janers.
Well, a challenge is what I needed when I began my Dear Jane quilt on 3/31/2006. I finished it in record time...one full year, finished 3/31/2007. I used 222 different 1930's reproduction fabrics, some of which my daughter Mindy and I collected together. My husband Tom, is responsible for encouraging me to use the black reproduction print sashing. He said to take a chance---it will really make the blocks POP! Interestingly enough, that is the one thing that gets commented on the most...so I always give credit where credit is due!
My quilt has a total of 5,584 individual pieces. It was machine quilted on my domestic Bernina 430 machine. It was a daunting task and sometimes difficult when my hands would ache, thus the title, No Pain, No Jane.
